Notice: Kekoo Gatta Niagara-on-the-Lake Death, Owner of Gatta Homes died from drowning accident

Kekoo Gatta Niagara-on-the-Lake Death – Niagara-on-the-Lake is mourning the loss of prominent custom home builder Kekoo Gatta, who tragically died after drowning in the Niagara River on Tuesday 3rd September 2024.

Gatta, 60, failed to return home after going for a swim near his docked boat at the mouth of the river. Gatta was the founder and owner of Gatta Homes, a luxury home development company that had been a pillar in the Niagara-on-the-Lake community for over three decades.

Known for his innovative designs and high-quality craftsmanship, Gatta helped shape the architectural landscape of the area, leaving behind a legacy of distinctive homes and satisfied clients.

Constable Phil Gavin of the Niagara Regional Police reported that officers were called to the scene after Gatta’s family grew concerned when he failed to return home or make contact after a prolonged period.

“A 60-year-old man had gone swimming from his docked boat in the Niagara River,” Gavin stated. Although police initially withheld the victim’s name, Gatta’s family confirmed his passing on Wednesday morning.

Emergency responders, including local fire departments from Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catharines, along with Niagara police and the Canadian Coast Guard, immediately launched a search effort.

They were alerted at approximately 9:30 p.m. and Gatta’s body was recovered by the police marine unit around 11:20 p.m., roughly 25 to 30 feet from where he had last been seen. Authorities have confirmed that foul play is not suspected in his death.

Beyond his work in luxury home development, Gatta was also heavily involved in his community. He contributed to local sports, especially through his involvement with the Brock University junior wrestling team, where he served as a coach. His passion for wrestling extended into his family, with his three children, Zubin, Cyrus, and Farrantina, all becoming competitive wrestlers.

Kekoo Gatta’s contributions to Niagara-on-the-Lake extend far beyond the homes he built. He was a beloved figure in the community, known for his generosity, leadership, and dedication to fostering both a thriving business and a vibrant local sports culture.
